a new dawn

our family has suffered an almost unbearable lost in our dogs, priscilla and ginger.  their passing only a week apart from one another left us caught in the dark emotions of grief and sadness.  our sadness has felt like the blackest night with no stars to offer hope.   some days there would be a fracturing of light and the pain and emotional weight would let up.  but reminders would pull us back into our darkness.  even william francis, our cat was suffering as he waited by the front door for the dogs to return.  he had lost all desire to play.  his fur was coming off in great clumps.  sadly, he was eating to fill his grief and was looking  fat.

then came a new dawn.

the dawn is coming

Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits.
Thank the God of all gods,
His love never quits.
Thank the Lord of all lords.
His love never quits.

4-9 Thank the miracle-working God,
His love never quits.
The God whose skill formed the cosmos,
His love never quits.
The God who laid out earth on ocean foundations,
His love never quits.
The God who filled the skies with light,
His love never quits.
The sun to watch over the day,
His love never quits.
Moon and stars as guardians of the night,

His love never quits

23-26 God remembered us when we were down,
His love never quits.
Rescued us from the trampling boot,
His love never quits.
Takes care of everyone in time of need.
His love never quits.
Thank God, who did it all!
His love never quits!    Psalm 136 The Message

when it felt as though our family was being crushed in the darkest hours of our grief.  God did not quit!  gently he led us to see the light, to feel his love and presence through a tiny kitten, thomas weasly.  where we swore with our mouths nothing could enter into the void of ginger and priscilla God made a way.  now each day the family awakes to find a fresh season of loving.  joy in the curiosity and affection of a kitten.  the girls giggle, again.   and john and i breathe a breath of release because God remembered us when we were down.  he has cared for us in our time of need.

sweet thomas weasly. our reminder that god’s love never quits.

even william who was extremely unsure this little man could be come his new companion has been awakened to God’s goodness.  where his heart was hardened to welcoming a frisky, new kitten God has softened it.  now he looks for his playmate.  he leads the way in touring the house.  he demonstrates the proper pouncing technique and ever so gently will put thomas in his place when he is too tired to play.  william has found comfort also in a new brother.

brothers sleeping together. hogging the couch.

i give thanks today because God is good.  i give thanks today because he heals the broken.  i give thanks today that God leads our hearts to delight again.  i give thanks today that His love never quits.
